The five things that set the price
- The cloth. This is the biggest factor. Blended fabrics cost less; pure wool, linen and premium mills cost more.
- The construction. A fused jacket costs less than a half-canvas one, which costs less than full canvas. More hand work, more cost.
- The number of pieces. A two-piece suit, a three-piece with waistcoat, or a jacket only.
- The details. Velvet or satin lapels, covered buttons, metal buttons, working cuffs and extra trousers add to the price.
- Time. Asking for a suit very quickly can mean extra work hours for the tailor.
Why the cheapest quote is not always the best value
A low price usually means a blended cloth and a fused (glued) chest. That can be a sensible choice for a suit you will wear a few times. For a suit you want to wear for years, or in Saigon's heat, a breathable wool or linen and a canvas chest keep their shape and comfort far longer.
Ask any tailor the same three questions: what is the cloth made of, how is the chest built, and how many fittings are included.
How Draco quotes
At Draco you get the price before any cloth is cut, based on the cloth you pick. There are no extra charges added afterwards.
